It's so great to find that one special person you want to annoy for the rest of your life....."

if it's great to find ONE person to annoy. How about finding THREE??? muahahahah

Personally, the only regret for this marriage is my inability (or 'chicken'ness) to persuade anyone that our marriage would be a lovelier journey staying with in laws; Gary's in laws. Still Mayang wat. I should touch on this when i talk about gender roles.

COme to think of it, i also failed miserably in persuading people that it would be better for Gary's mom to walk him down the isle. Anyway, who decides that woman should be walking down the isle (with the baggy dress) clinging to her dear dad, and the man just standing there probably thinking twice of his coming life sentence? What about the veil that stuck to your face all day long like a mask? Why wear them when you are supposed to also need a clear vision on the words for the worship session, and the clearest eye contact with the groom you utter your vow to!?

So, how's life after wedding? Cameron and his co-filmmaker Israel-born Simcha Jacobovici said on Monday their research suggested Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had a son, Judah, who were buried with him in the Israel cemetery.... and blah blah blah (you can get the full news from the Star Newspaper)

The recent Da Vinci Code movie was already a washed-out. All the evidences that they claimed true were disproved. So, what we have now - another controversial issue about Jesus deity? Not again? Didn’t the skeptics learnt their lesson? Of course, the skeptics never share the same view. Dan Brown claimed Jesus descendants settled down nicely in France and now, we have the whole family buried in Jerusalem. And each claimed they had found the truth!! James Cameron said, “as a documentary film maker, I should not be afraid of pursuing truth.” I suspect its more the money he is after than anything else. Sorry, I am no “Titanic” fan.

Anyway, controversies such as these can be real good platforms for us to share about the good news. So, all is not lost – perhaps, it is free publicity for the Christians. Did you smell opportunities to invite your friends for our upcoming Easter Celebration?

Let us celebrate His resurrection. Indeed, He is alive today!

You can read more about this subject in the following links:-
Academy Winner of “Titanic” James Cameron Navigates “The Lost Tomb of Jesus” (http://newsblaze.com/story/20070225195821howa.nb/newsblaze/NEWSWIRE/NewsBlaze-Wire.html)

Discovery Channel to roll out Freemason Cameron on Jesus Tomb Claim (http://www.raidersnewsnetwork.com/full.php?news=3171)

Scepticism expressed about Lost Tomb of Jesus claim(http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/breaking-news/world/middle-east/article2308613.ece)

4 more days to go!

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5036125349420187618" style="DISPLAY: block; Yes, to your amazement he will show him even greater things than these. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. 22 Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.

To understand what things Jesus were doing on the Sabbath, we need to read the passage before it, verses 1-16. Jesus’ response to the Jews opposition was after he healed a man who was paralyzed for 38 years- which could be just one instance of recorded "things" that Jesus did. After the man was healed and began to walk while carrying his mat, the Jewish leaders objected him since he was ‘working’ on the Sabbath. But then they discovered something else- Jesus was the culprit who healed this man, so they forgot completely about the man and moved on to attacking Jesus, found here in verse 16.

Why do they attack Jesus and completely forgotten the incredible miracle He performed?

According to Gen 2:2-3, on the seventh day of creation week God rested from his creative work. Now think for a moment. Does God, then, keep the Sabbath law? He rested right? Summore, he gave the command for others to treat Sabbath as a holy day. If your answer is no, God does not rest, does not God himself become a law-breaker? But if you answer yes, he observes Sabbath, who keeps the universe in running order while he rests? There are many differing opinions offered all throughout the centuries. Philo denies that God has ever ceased his work of creation. The Rabbis also concurred that God works on Sabbath, if not, the world would have gone haywire and went on to say that God did not break the Sabbath law although he works non-stop because the entire universe was his domain (Isa 6:3) and the law is below Him.

Whether he breaks the Sabbath or not, God works continuously: all were agreed on that point. I believe God merely cease from his 'creator' job, but not his providence responsibilities. He still governs the universe we live in, and he works privately in the souls of men and women (and even nations!) to direct the course of their lives. It's similar to saying although God was silent for 400 years in between the OT and NT books (as if he's out of the sphere of the world), he is not silent as in He's there all the time, caring for a sick child, answering the prayer of a crippled etc... this silence must be understood as the famine of words from the Lord to His people as a nation.

Assuming it, Jesus applies it to himself in verse 17 "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working." Make no mistake; the Jews who heard of this would know the implication that goes with this statement… for to have this self-defense to be valid, the same factors that apply to God must apply to Jesus. Jesus in essence is saying either he is above the law given to mere mortals, or, if he operates within the law, it is because the entire universe is his.

Notice that Jesus here did not argue, as he might have that the Jews’ interpretation of the Sabbath was incorrect. You see when God prohibits Sabbath to be a working day for His people, he was referring to ‘work’ that is normally done the other 6 days of the week and therefore, does not apply to ‘work’ done by Jesus in healing a man, and the man who carried his mat home after a miraculous cure! Why doesn’t it apply? Because the man din carry his mat everyday as his normal work! So the Jews were wrong in their diagnosis of what consists of ‘work’ and ‘Sabbath’. (as Carson)

Whatever factors justify God’s continuous work from creation on also justify his actions- simply because Jesus is God. So the Jews form being offended with Jesus breaking Sabbath, they move on being indignant that Jesus made himself at par with God (verse 18). Just as the fact that the son of man is the Lord of the Sabbath (Mar 2:23-28) can be used to defend the actions of Jesus’ disciples, so the fact that He is the Son of the Father can defend his actions to heal as well. This is a verse that speaks of deity of Christ, one of the main themes of John’s gospel. Jesus explained he healed on the Sabbath because of His unique relationship with his Father.

Calla Lilies...

    two bcome oNe..

we're a household of faith
tat 2gether we can make

when the strong winds blow
it wont fall down

As one in Christ we'll grow
and the whole world will know
we're a household of faith

LUV is in the air..
LUV is in the air..

Me next...

It's been more than 2 months since i graduated from school.
After graduation, what's next? More graduations...???
Heheheee..not kidding you, that i'm in for another graduation!
Altho no prominent dean or chairman from some renown Christian school going to be featured in this coming graduation, it's nevertheless a graduation that i've been waiting for all these years (yes, i have thought of graduating from this since i was just a lil' girl)! And i'm going to be rewarded with simply the best award ever in my lifetime.

People...i'm getting married *clappp clappp yaYy yayyyyyy* Yeap, i know... he is a lucky person.. wouldn't say he's the luckiest..because the "luckiest" award goes to me :) and he knows it.

Another graduation, another phase of life. Am i ready to be a wife? Man..can't answer that. I'll write again after the months of honeymooning stage lar (base on the statistics, hus and wife usually starts their first fight after 6 months, and that is if no baby is on the way).

Unprepared as i seem to be... i am excited over the preparation to walk down the isle. As the bride, it's all about being beautiful, graceful, all smiles, and calm..yes, calm! I have been rehearsing in my head 'dun trip over my dad', 'dun touch the face too much it wld smear the makeup', 'look happy', 'practise the perfect kiss', 'thank all who help out', and 'dun THANK MY DAD'..the last time i did that, i couldn't go on with my speech for 10 seconds...hey, i could be sentimental wat. I'm more than jokes and counseling ok.

Hope to upload some photos in few days time.. busy CNY for me this year, but nevertheless the excitement i have for this CNY is more than all the years combined.

Another graduation, another chapter, another challenge, another work of God in me.

finally..no longer waiting at the airport waiting for my pickup.

Babel

It was a rare occasion in which we went to watch a movie without knowing what the movie is all about. I did assume the movie should not be too bad if Cate Blanchett is one of the casts. The first fifteen minutes were about a family in Morocco. A gun was bought to take care of the sheep from dangerous predators. The father of the family has to be away and the gun was literally handed to the two young teenage sons. They were testing the gun out and without the true intent to kill, a bullet was let out and hurt an American tourist (Cate Blanchett). She was traveling with her husband (Brad Pitt) in a bus and it was a holiday that they had taken with the hope of resolving some marital issues between them. This one shot brought us to the lives of others – the life of the maid of the American couple and the life of a lonely deaf-mute teenager in Japan who happened to be the daughter of a man who had given the gun to a Moroccan.

There were a number of messages in this story. At first, I think the movie is quite ambitious in trying to achieve too much. However, depending on how one wants to view it – it can have a main theme that plays with the contradiction of us living in a small world due to the advance of technology and communication, and the fact that we had never really advance in terms of communication due to our diverse background and culture. We have our perceptions and blind spots. Many times, the movie show to us that people generally do not try to understand another person because of preconceived ideas and fears.

The story of Chieko (Ringo Kikuchi) was a gripping one. I personally think Ringo did a great job in portraying her character as a lonely, frustrated and lost teenager. She is a strong portrayal of the young urban generation of today. She felt depressed and lonely because she lost her mother recently and her father is unable to relate to her because he himself is perhaps as depressed over the loss of his spouse. Chieko simply craves for human contact and thinks that giving herself sexually to others is perhaps the answer.

As for Amelia (Adrianna Barraza) who played the role of the maid to the children of the American couple, she was put in a situation which she did not deserve. No where to put the children, she has to bring them along to Mexico to attend her son’s wedding. She did not have any letter of permission from the parents and due to the rash act of his nephew to speed through the Custom check-point, all her “good works” was lost because of one silly mistake committed by her nephew. She has to be finally deported to Mexico after spending 16 years in America. It is a tragedy for her but isn’t that the reality of life? What can a maid’s voice amount to? She would be in a different situation altogether if her status in society is more than a maid!

Babel speaks about a world that is so disconnected and one strong message to all of us – the world is not getting any better but only worse. Personally, Chieko’s story touched me most because I realized how much we need God in our lives. Without Him, how do we ever know how to live right? Her story also shows how little the Christian community has an impact in Japanese society. Where is the voice of the Christians?

Some finds this movie a waste of time. Though it has its flaws like any other movies, I think it had achieved its purpose by setting me thinking about the frailty of human life and to be more discerning in my views because I may be clouded by my own perceptions.

The horrors of adultery

Adultery- the despised word in a marriage. Movies nowadays play on this theme often as though a marriage that is void of adultery is almost abnormal. We have heard stories after stories about how marriages are being destroyed because of unfaithfulness. It was used to be a "Western" problem but even in Malaysia, the divorce rate had increased tremendously over the recent years and I suspect, the main reason is due to adultery. In christian marriages, we value the sanctity of marriage - couples were taught about it through proper marital counseling before their weddings. Yet, with all this in place, the Christians are not spared. I wrote with much heartache and sadness this time because I have the misfortune of looking at this ugly word, almost face-to-face. It happened to someone that is very close to me. Actually, this was not the first time - she had encountered her husband's unfaithfulness a few years back. It was dealt with then and they had moved on with their lives. Unfortunately, it rears its ugly head again this time and it had become worse than before. She did not want to confide to anyone at first. Who would want to - washing their dirty linens in the public? She had given him a few chances to break up with the lady. He had promised to do so but due to the weakness of the flesh, he had never succeeded. The emotional attachment is too deep. The other party does not want to let go either. I said this time it is worst than before because the other lady is a married woman too. What a big mess! When I got to know about this, I was agitated because I just cannot understand how two church goers can enter into such disgusting and dangerous liaison. What had happened to their conscience? They were counselled to let go but instead of allowing the Lord to guide their hearts, they had let their flesh the free rein. A moment of pleasure will reap an eternity of regrets. If the man would really decide to leave the family, his son will grow up not knowing the true responsibility of a man and a father, and the fruit of despair will be reaped in the next generation. The vicious cycle of bitterness and disappointment thus begins.

How true it is that the Devil is here to steal and destroy. His tactic is to break down Christian families. What can we do to stop it? Even Christian leaders are not spared and their downfall not only harm their own families but it had stumbled hundreds or even thousands of members and church followers. How shall we go about it? The spirit of deception and lust can be so powerful and the church seems to be so powerless. I can only pray that the Lord's mercy and grace will sustain us all. Let the Lord's prayer, "lead us not unto temptation but deliver us from the evil one" help us to realize our own frailty and how much we are dependent on Him every day of our lives. Lord, please help your children this day!

My golfing experience

I have been playing golf for more than one year now. The very first time I went to the green was somewhere in April or May last year. It was the Bandar Utama 9-hole course. I cannot remember my score but it wasn't really golf - that's for sure, but the experience really got me hooked to golf for a while. I realized the coaching lessons really helped me a lot. The iron swings was fairly easy to master but the driving was crazy. I was just using Wood 5 to practise my driving and I was stucked at that stage for a while. I thot I was going to give up then. I always felt a sense of helplessness because I cant even drive more than 100 metres. How am I going to get the ball to cross a pond (some holes have a pond right in front of the tee box)? So, am I going to give up or what? Thank God I did not. I really persevere, of course with the help of Wen Jye. The breakthrough came when I got a new Ping Driver with a 14th loft. Wow, that changes everything. The Driver was really "forgiving" - my balls were flying. I remember the first time I teed off on the green was with Wen Jye's clients (4 flights) and I was in the first flight. It was so nerve-wracking when all eyes were on me (the only lady golfer) to drive. Wow, the feeling was so "good" when my ball fly and cross the pond in hole 10 of the Monterez Golf Club. Every golf game has been really interesting - there were of course some bad times when my short game failed me, but that's part and parcel of playing golf. It is so challenging that you can be scoring so low one day and the next day, you have double pars in almost every hole.

As recommended by David Leadbetter, I just bought a wood 7 to complete my golf set. He said it is an essential club for any lady golfer due to our weakness in getting the distance when we are at the fairway. I have been practising on the driving range but has not try it out at the green yet. I hope to master it and hopefully, my score will get lower than before.

My golf experience had taught me a couple of things. Firstly, I want to say that I was really prejudiced against golfers in the past. I cannot accept that grown up men can be so obssesed with a game that involves hitting a ball across a "field" and under the sun for hours - what happened to their sanity? Now, this really sets me thinking of my other prejudices against other interests and so forth. I think its best to reserve judgement until you try and taste it yourself. Secondly, it had taught me that perseverance does pay - we are not to give up easily but I realized many people do give up easily especially when the interest was not as much at the beginning. The same principle applies with other pursuits of life - we start with passion first and if there is passion, there will be success when you persevere. People give up easily because there is no passion in the first place and naturally, perseverance is not required. The motivation in every pursuit is important. When I first started golfing, I chose to believe that I can master it like everyone else. I crave for the satisfaction of seeing my ball flying straight ahead of me. The end result makes me work hard in the process.

Perhaps we can apply the same principle to our career or business venture, or even our ministry. Do we quickly give up when we encounter the slightest challenge or do we persevere and stay on course in our pursuits? Giving up is always the easiest way out but it was never a biblical response. Therefore, it is good to always evaluate our response in every situation because it speaks so much of our character.

Retirement Home, Scones and Charcoal Steamboat

There were a few pleasant surprises when we visited Cameron Highlands (CH) this time. Let me start with the week before - we thot of going to CH because of the Citibank reward points that we can convert to accomodation stay at the Equatorial Hotel in Brinchang. Well, that din materialize because such arrangement needs 21 days' advance notice. Of course, that did not deter us from going. We called several places including our favourite, Bala's Chalet. Unfortunately, most places within our budget were fully booked till we got Twin Pines. We were pleasantly surprised that the rate was at RM60 during the Raya holiday season. Since we do not have much options, we quickly made our bookings. The usual skeptic me was already fast imagining a room infested with cockroaches and insects. Who wouldnt? I mean all other places are well above RM120, so I really cant expect much from RM60, can I?

Ya know, sometimes its good that we set low expectations because we were indeed pleasantly surprised. Twin Pines original chalet was full house but I dun know how they made the arrangments, we were put in a "new block" (so they said) - a retirement home. To be exact, the place is called "KRS Pines Retirement Home". The place is basic - a reasonable spacious bathroom, 2 single beds, a cupboard, no TV but what I really like about the place is that it was really well-kept and CLEAN. The RM60 is well worth the value after all!

Fancy any scones? Well, we found this lovely place called Cameronian Inn, very nearby to Twin Pines. It's well-kept with a small but beautiful garden. We had our tea, scones with their homemade strawberry jam on one of the evenings. I really loved the scones!

If you are at CH, steamboat for dinner is a must. In our previous trips, we had our steamboat at various chinese restaurants and usually, they are a bit crowded especially during festive seasons. It was a raining evening and we were a bit reluctant to queue for our food after a long and tiring round of golf. So, we decided to pop in to one of the hotels. We saw a banner on special promotion - charcoal steamboat outside this Casa Del Rosa hotel. At first, we were a bit hesitant because there were no one in the restaurant. I mean, the ambience was terrific but there were no diners. Dun ask we why. So, we had our charcoal steamboat dinner - just the two of us with the whole restaurant all by ourselves for the whole 1 1/2 hours. We never had that kind of experience before. I mean the charges was not that pricey - only RM30 nett per pax. Yes, we had a great evening but pity the restaurant - is this normal, we really wouldnt know??

Yes, this trip is definitely a bingo for us!

Do you believe you have the POWER?

Think of a friend or someone that you had been contemplating to share the gospel but have not done so. Let’s be honest with ourselves – what were the reasons that you have not done so?

Some of our reasons can be fear of failure, rejection, not knowing what to say, saying the wrong thing and etc. The key excuse is “FEAR” but fear is not acceptable. The Lord expects us to be His witnesses. It’s a pretty scary thought but we don’t have to do it alone or in our own strength. We have help! Do you believe that or not??

Let’s turn to the bible to understand a bit about the first record of the power that had been poured out to the disciples of Jesus Christ. Read Acts 2:1-4. Some of the evidences of the Spirit’s coming were as follows:-

1) Firstly, the audible evidence (what they heard). A noise/sound like that of a violent rushing wind came from heaven. Can you imagine such a sound? It was a sound/noise that came like an earthquake, without warning.
2) Secondly, the visible evidence (what they saw). Fire-like manifestations resembling tongues settled on each person.
3) Oral evidence (what they speak). They began to converse in other languages. At this very instant, the church was born, making its infant cry, joyously proclaiming the gospel of Christ in words the whole world could understand.

Now, we had just witnessed a powerful manifestation of the Spirit upon the disciples. What about us? Do we have our own Pentecost experience? Can you recall an incident whereby you know the power of the Spirit fall upon you that you know He had touched your heart so deeply or in your circumstances so that you sensed God’s love for you? Describe the situation and how it had changed your life.

Let me share my story – After 2 years of my conversion, I experienced a deep sense of His greatness and my dependence on Him. It was a turning point for me. On one occasion, I was sharing my testimony in a youth fellowship meeting. As I was verbalizing God’s love upon my life, I was weeping like a baby and I knew it was the Spirit that had touched me. I immediately made a commitment to follow and serve Him faithfully. It was a meeting I can never forget because it had really changed my life. I remembered I went to the college and quickly seek out the Christian fellowship and somehow, I was attracted to the prayer ministry (bcos it’s the closest ministry to the heart of Jesus) – I remembered the joy of the Head of the Prayer ministry team when he saw a new face in their midst (as you are aware, prayer meetings usually do not attract a big group of people) and I grow ever since. There are of course many other instances after that. Quoting Billy Graham – "one baptism but many fillings." When He filled us, he will work Himself in and through our lives. We need that to do His work and our mission on this earth – to have His power to witness, only then can we be effective witness!

Look at Peter. When he was being filled with the Spirit, what had happened to this ordinary guy? Let’s read Acts 2: 22-24, 32-33, 36. Peter who denied Christ few weeks ago was now able to stand in front of a large crowd and proclaim the gospel. What made the difference? Undoubtedly, the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

Now, have you ever tried explaining to someone what Christianity is? If you do not know how, whatever Peter had just explained basically covers the essentials – that Jesus is King but came to earth as man – he died on the cross – whom God raised up – and ascended to heaven, exalted to the right hand of God (He is alive today) – God has made this Jesus, whom we crucified, both Lord and Christ! Remember, our mission is to proclaim the good news, the Holy Spirit is the one who will move the people to respond. Read Acts 2:37-41. “They were pierced to the heart” / “cut to the heart” – this is the work of the Holy Spirit definitely because He is the one who does the conviction – the same Holy Spirit that had equipped the witnesses to communicate the message in a way that was understandable and empowered the message when it centered on Jesus and His resurrection.

The day in Acts chapter 2 started with a room of faithful but powerless followers of Christ sat together, praying and waiting but by the end of the day, thousands more carried the flame of God’s Spirit in their hearts. In them new life had begun. The church was born.

As we end here, let Paul’s words help us to have a compassion for those who are lost… “To the weak I became weak, in order to win the weak. I have become all things to all people, so that I may by all means save some.” (1 Cor 9:22) That is being all things to all people. Remember this life is not about us. We’ve already found the Way but the others have not. God has placed certain people in our lives for a purpose.
